Learning outcomes

A graduate of studies will be able:

To apply knowledge of law and other social sciences, models of creative and critical thinking when assessing socio-economic phenomena in the society;

To apply communication means and models, the principles of professional ethics when working in a team and communicating with customers;

To apply a legal norm in specific legal relations;

To prepare local legal acts, contracts and other legal documents in companies, institutions and organizations;

To organize and assess legal administration of the activity of companies and institutions;

To draft procedural documents rendered to a court, executive power and law institutions;

To represent public management, business and private entities in the relations with the third parties;

To implement the decisions of civil servants and officials on the implementation of acts of law application;

To operatively carry out the actions of a pre-trial investigation and to suitably qualify criminal acts;

To organize a court sitting and to handle the documents of court activity;

To assess the sources of legal information, using the modern information technologies and databases of legal information;

To do scientific – empirical research, while formulating goals and tasks of a research, raising hypotheses and verifying them, while collecting and analyzing data and while making conclusions;

To assess one‘s professional activity, knowledge and experience, to foresee the trends of self-expression and self-development and to develop one‘s professionalism in a constantly changing society.

Career opportunities

Graduates can work as investigators of a pre-trial investigation, court sitting secretaries; as civil servants in municipalities and other state institutions; in company administrations, in police headquarters and other law enforcement institutions, customs; as legal advisers, legal secretaries, lawyers in business companies and non-governmental organizations; in offices of bailiffs, solicitors and in notaries offices.

After graduating from Law Study Programme students can continue studies in Lithuanian and foreign higher schools implementing II cycle study programmes of the group of Law study field. Graduates, who seek to study in social sciences‘ postgraduate studies, have to comply with the pre-set requirements of higher education institution study field or field group schedule; to have knowledge and abilities that are obligatory for studies under certain field programmes. Graduates also may study according to the study programmes that do not provide a degree. Students of Law Study Programme are granted an opportunity to gain a Vilnius University Master in Law Diploma in 4 years. Law Faculty of Vilnius University organizes additional one-year studies in the SMK University of Applied Social Sciences in Klaipeda. Graduates also may study according to the study programmes that do not provide a degree.

Career Center is an SMK department, which provides individual career planning, work/internship search consultations, helps pupils to make independent, related to studies decisions, and for students – to integrate successfully into study process and labour market, coordinates Alumni Club activity and implements monitoring of graduates, communicates with social partners and representatives of the employers, organises seminars, courses and lectures.
